My newest obsession - Key Fobs

KEY FOBS...yeah Buddy!! I think I'm going to call them, "Key-Fobulous". When I find a craft or a project that I enjoy I can't stop with making just ONE. I have to make several...and several for ME could mean 40 or 50.

I found the hardware to make these fobs from an Etsy site. Mamasgonecrazy or something like that. Appropriate for me I thought. LOL So within a few days I had 50+ fobs made. I told you it was my latest obsession. I make them in two widths. 1 inch and 1 1/4 inch. My latest find at T.J. Maxx, yesterday in Dallas, was a hanger that was perfect to display them. Now if only I could find a cute place around here to sell them. Prices FOR NOW...are $4.00 for the 1 inch and $5.00 for the 1 1/4 inch.

Serendipity Scarves

Definition: Serendipity: The faculty or phenomenon of finding valuable and agreeable things not sought for. Precisely what I would hope would be the reaction to my scarves. Valuable, agreeable...even though you weren't looking for them.

When I decided to start making fleece scarves last winter (they are embellished with yarn crocheted on the edges) I had no idea I would end up with SOO many of them. Last count, before the ones I have given as gifts and the ones that I have sold to friends, I have made 112 scarves. I currently have 91 to sell through my Etsy site. I haven't exactly gotten them uploaded yet, but will do that within the next few weeks. Currently, if anyone out there....HEEELLLLOOO cyberspace, would be interested you can view said scarves on FACEBOOK by going to Daydream Dezigns Facebook page. "Lady Bags" - first installment of purses

I have decided that I am going to call my purses: "Lady Bags" with a lady bug in the logo somehow. They will be under the general umbrella of my business, which will be called Daydream Dezigns.

This next whimsical purse is made from fleece. I took my leftover pieces of fleece and
cut 3/4 inch strips of the fleece and s-t-r-e-t-c-h-e-d it, by hand, into long thin pieces. Yarn. Then I crocheted purses. This is the first....of many. :)

My project for today was this little blue handbag. I think it could work perfectly for a small evening bag. The clasp is made from beads and buttons out of my collections. I said yesterday I would post photos of my jewelry bags. Perhaps tomorrow I'll do that....that is unless I decide to made something else. You just never know.

I was introduced to these potholders by a old friend of mine. She had made two for her sister and I loved them. They are crocheted with cotton yarn. Most of the ones I have made have been given as presents to my daughters, my daughter-in-law and my sisters. They all seem to like them and I use the ones I made for myself all the time. Most of what I plan to put on my Etsy site will be on here first to see what the responses will be, if any. Stay tuned for more "stuff".

My newest adventure

I have a new, dare I say, obsession. It's crocheting. I have always crocheted but the bug has bitten me again. I became reacquainted with an old friend and in that process she turned me on to the idea of crocheting the edges of fleece and making scarves. THIS I have been doing for the last three months and my accumulated effort is growing in my studio. I have also been making baby blankets done in the same way, made of fleece, with crocheted edges, in the dimensions of receiving blankets. These blankets I am calling Blessing Blankets while the scarves will be Selah Scawl Scarves. HOPEFULLY, I will be posting photos of them here as well as on my Etsy site where they will be for sale. I haven't gotten the advertising tags designed nor have I finalized the way I'm going to package them OR the wording I want to use to describe them for the Etsy site so I continue to crochet and hope that eventually I'll get around to doing the business end of it. My Etsy site will be called Daydream Dezigns.

Yesterday I spent most of the morning arranging and fidgiting with my PB&JJ blankets. (I've changed the name of these blankets AGAIN...because I can't seem to settle on any one name.) It will either be PB&JJ or PBJ&J...can't decide. Here's what it stands for...in case you missed it the first time.

My salt and pepper shakers' POV and cinnamon muffins too!

Today was one of our days at Corner Bakery. We go on Sunday, Tuesday, and Thursday, unless we can't and then we cry. JK As I stated before, they do have the very best coffee and it's free refills.
Bowtie Man: "But there's no coffee in the cups yet!" ok ok ok

Let me get this close up of the muffins first then I'll go fill the coffee cups.

I get the coffee because I have to doctor mine....Bowtie man doesn't. He says he drinks it like a real man...black. Have him tell you the story of how he went from cream and sugar man to "I take it black" man. :)

My favorite salt and pepper shakers. (currently) Those cute white birds...admiring the blueness and brownness of the new quilt. Ok...so it's only pieced but the quilting part takes a little less time than the cutting out, the arranging & putting together and the piecing. What am I saying...?... it all takes time.

So there it is....

The fully finished quilt won't look much different. It might be a few days for the finish project to emerge from the studio door...but I will post it when done. Since I made it a little bigger than the other PB&J Blankets, (5 squares by 5 squares instead of the normal 4 sq. by 5 sq.) I now do not have a piece of fabric big enough for the backing. Well, at least one big enough that I want to use. DRAT IT ALL ANYWAY!!! That means another trip to Joann's Fabrics to find the backing and that means more temptation. I literally have to pray my way through the aisles of that place. SO much to see and way way way tooooo much to buy. Pray for me as I venture forth. I'm serious about that request btw.

I find the day goes much better when handled with prayer and supplication. It's hard for me to understand it, but the Lord says he likes for me to talk to Him about everything. So be it....

Back to Quilting

Today was a quilting day....I guess I'm back at it. I will take a photo of my studio one of these daysso you can see the mess of fabric I still have. You'd think after the 85+ baby quilts and 20+ purses, not even counting the aprons, reusable grocery sacks, jewelry pouches and other wearable articles, I'd be out of fabric. Nope...not even close. Maybe I won't post a photo. It might not be interesting to anyone but myself. Somedays it's not even interesting to me....mercy. moving on...............

Once I got up...I should say, Once I woke up, I fixed a bit of breakfast for the Bowtie man and myself. Eggs, sausage, toast, orange juice and coffee. Mine leaded, his not. Side note: three days a week we treat ourselves to cinnamon muffins and delish Corner Bakery coffee. We have tried many places...Shipley's, Mickey D's, Atlanta Bread, La Madeline, even Starbuck's, just to name a few...but our all time favorite place for coffee is Corner Bakery Cafe. CBC. (Inside joke for several that might view this.) Yesterday was the first of our every other days so we'll scoot to CBC tomorrow. One of life's little pleasures. I'll be sure and take a photo of the muffins tomorrow and post them so you can see what you're missing. :) ANYHOO....back to quilting. I get so side tracked sometimes. Comes from having six kids and having to multi-task I think....well...maybe not. You don't live inside my head...see...side tracked AGAIN. QUILTING...think quilting.

My nephew, John, (the Campbell side John not the Bramhall side John) and his wife, Laura are expecting their first baby, A BOY, (another Campbell man) in October. 21st I think. At Laura's shower I promised her a PB&J blanket (prayers, blessings and joy) for her little one when they knew what the sex was and had chosen the colors of the room. SO...they chose light blue and brown. I love light blue and brown. Those two colors always remind me of my very bestest of friends and shopping buddy...Ritabandita. Her bedroom always reminds me of a seaside cottage. Very light very bright and totally inviting. With the temperatures we've had here in the Dallas/FW area who wouldn't want to be by the sea by the sea by the beautiful sea or the mountains with it's crisp cool air and wonderful night of coolness for sleeping? I just have to hit the power button on my air conditioner in the studio and dream.....wow....totally sidetracked again... QUILTING....think quilting....

I wanted to show you the "bakerella" process of my quilting so here goes.
These are the basic fabrics I chose. The little paw print is significant because they have a little long haired weiny dog that they love.

Just some of the squares cut out and pinned together before they hit the sewing machine.

Here I have laid out the smaller squares to make the larger nine patch squares. It's a trial by error process. What fabric looks best with what fabric and which dark with which light. Stuff like that.

Here is the first "rough draft" of the quilt. I laid the sewn nine-patch squares along with some four-patch (four squares sewn together) down on my kitchen bar with large 9" squares to get the feel for what it wanted to look like.

Slightly higher view of the arrangement. I decided something wasn't quite right so I mixed them up a bit and took another picture.

Better...but not quite right. Then I decided that it needed to be a little bit bigger quilt so instead of having four squares across and five down it will now have five squares across and five down. These quilts have minds of their own sometimes. Geez.

The problem is my bar isn't big enough for that size quilt. I had to overlap the squares and hang some off the edges to get it all on there. Then I was one square short. drats. Went to the pile of scraps I had left over and put together another square which will fit nicely into the last place. Fifth down...fifth across. See the empty spot at the bottom left of the picture above? Well that's the position where the new square will go.

But I've run out of time and the fam is getting hungry. They haven't said anything yet but the infamous question, "What's for dinner?" I'm certain, is fixin' to be asked.

Hopefully I will make significant progress on the quilt tonight and be able to post that tomorrow.

Scones Anyone?

Late last night my son, Patrick, asked for scones for breakfast. Sooo....being the marvelous...no.....great.....no....adequate mother that I am, who is largely motivated by guilt, I acquiesced to his request and at 10:00 last night I made scones. Patrick LOVES anything that has to do with bread.

As I assembled the ingredients I had visions of my blog looking like an entry on bakerella's blog. I love her blog. I immediately decided that wasn't possible but nevertheless....I continued on.

In my haste I started mixing everything together, afterall...it was late. I then realized if I wanted to document this I needed to get my camera out to take pictures. duh. Since the dough was already mixed my documentation starts at that point.

First , you must find the tattered and stained copy of your "Simple Scones" recipe that you printed off from http://www.allrecipes.com/

Then, you gather your ingredients....flour, sugar, butter, salt, baking soda, baking powder, sour cream and egg. Use your imagination as I did not get those photos....when all the ingredients are completely mixed you have....ta-da....something that might resemble this: Remove the thoroughly mixed dough onto a floured (not flowered) surface and roll the dough into a circle that has the diameter of 7"-8". Sprinkle the top with about a tablespoon of sugar (or more if you have a sweet tooth). The thickness of the dough should be 3/4th inch. Not 8/16ths or 10/16ths but 3/4th. I didn't measure mine. I just eyeballed it. :)

Now...cut the circle into 8 equal pieces. Remember that geometry class in high school? Well...what you learned will now come in handy.

The recipe suggested that you use parchment paper on your baking surface but I didn't have any so I was forced to use a naked cookie sheet.

Open the hatch and in they go........

So while they were baking I just had to open the oven door and have a peek at those cute little scones.

I almost forget some pertinent information....preheat oven to 400 degrees and bake for 15-17 minutes. Mine took the full 17 minutes.

Here I have arranged the scones, quite nicely I might add, on my cake platter. Last but not least, the dreaded note to Paddy. My bread-head. And yes, I actually did put that note on the cake server thingy. I have learned I must make my sentiments known...and they must be clearly stated especially when it comes to food.

I am sorry to say I have no new quilts ready to post but one of these days I will post all of the PB&J blankets that are finished. I currently have 30+ pieced and ready for quilting and 50+ ready to be pieced.

New Quilts - The Beginning of a Blessing

The above quilts are small. They measure 32" x 40". Smaller than a regular crib quilt but slightly bigger than a receiving blanket. These "little" quilts (19 in all thus far) have been my projects for the last few months. Cutting out the squares, putting the colors together (the best I could with what I had) and then sewing them up. My plan at present is to get them finished and donate them to the Edna Gladney home. This home, in Fort Worth, Texas, for those of you who do not live here, is an adoption agency. It gives pregnant girls/women, if they want to give birth to their babies, a place to stay until they deliver. It's a very real alternative to abortion. From all I've heard, they are doing wonderful work. So these "Blessing Blankets" will go home with those babies who were fortunate enough to have life chosen for them. Indeed a blessing for these little ones. Please keep these babies in your prayers. Their lives hang in the balance as does the nation of America for the slaughter of children that they have legally approved. God is not pleased.

New Quilts....New Beginnings

I have been working...and the above crazy quilt is one of the finished quilt tops I have folded up and put away, awaiting the machine quilting I will soon learn to do. Not quilting done on my Bernina...but on a large machine quilting machine that will require lessons to learn to use. I have been also been cutting out quilt pieces from my stacks of fabrics that have been resting in bins for years. These have now been sorted by color, cut out into various size pieces, including squares, and stacked according to size of square. They will eventually all be assembled later to make more quilt tops. Now they are just piles of colored fabrics, resembling nothing, waiting to be assembled. Sometimes I wonder if that's not the way the Lord looks at us. He cuts out the pieces of our lives, sorts them by shape and color and plans what he wants to make with them. Eventually, in His time, he will piece it all together and it will make something useful and beautiful. Our job is to remain patient and faithful while He does his sorting, cutting, planning and assembling.

There are several other finished quilts that I will post in the next few days or weeks. They are nothing to ooh and ahh over...but they are finished and done. A few steps closer to finishing my assigned project of "getting to the end of my basket".

I want to make baby quilts on a regular basis once all the other projects are done. I already have a name for what I will call them. Blessing Blankets.

I guess my quilts have taken the place of my painting for now.

No paintings yet....sorry

For the last few months I have been in my studio. Seriously. I have not produced anymore paintings, although I still have a few of my old ones to give away. I know, I know...I keep saying I have more to post here but I don't do it. The last two were not taken and I suppose that left me a bit bewildered. I don't know why I should be, but I was. Anyhoo...:) moving on

Above is a photo of one of my latest projects. It actually turned out bigger than I had originally envisioned it, but it will easily fit a queen/king sized bed. My sewing projects will be the same as my paintings. Given away. I already have names in mind for most of the quilt tops that I've pieced, but of course, they aren't entirely completed yet. Other projects include reusable grocery sacks, aprons, jewelry bags, purses, clothing, tablecloths and place mats. I've even helped a dear friend recover a sofa that was given to her. That was a fun four days. Some yummy lunches accompanied our days of couch recovering. Thanks Karen....for hiring me.

Trying to "get to the end of my basket" is a daunting task but I am finding that one stitch at a time, one seam at a time and sooner or later the garment/project is finished. The same is true with our Christian walk. Just keep at it. One day I hope to have a clean studio and one project at a time to work on. It's good to clean out the cobwebs and start afresh. Thank you Lord for fresh starts.

More Paintings to Come

I have not posted here for some time now. I had a painting out and ready to post the other day. In the mean time a friend stopped by to bring me a dress to alter and she saw the painting on my kitchen counter. "Are you putting this one on the blog?" she said. I said I was and she said she'd be calling me later. I just handed it to her to save her the time. :) It is now sitting on the piano at a local deli, TIN CUP, owned by Bradi and Damon Carney. I haven't gotten around to picking out another one. To those few who have stuck with this blog, thank you for your patience. I should be back on track with posting paintings. This summer has been spent in my studio sewing...."getting to the end of my basket."

It's been too long since my last posting.

(I seem to say that each posting now.) :) A couple of you have asked if I was still doing this blog and I am, it's just not so frequent as at first. Currently, I'm busy in my studio with my sewing machine. Boring to most but I am enjoying my sewing again. I still have more of my paintings to offer here, that will have to come later, but for right now here are the last four pieces of jewelry that my friend, Diane Sawczyn created. She is currently living in Australia where her husband, who is a "travelling" nurse. Remember, if you see a piece of jewelry that you like, please ask, they are offered here, FREE, just as my paintings are offered. If you feel led to give a bit of money to "My Daily Offering" it will all go to the Biggerstaff family in Colorado. Cody is their 16 year old son and he starts his second round of chemo for his leukemia, in a day of two. His cancer has reoccurred. Medicaid has tentatively decided that they won't cover this round of treatment. Prayers are requested for this family. Thanks for listening.

It was a pretty good day and this round of chemo is over and he feels pretty good. They just told us that he doesn't have to be hooked up to an I.V. tonight and that got a big Cody smile, that's for sure. A night with no beeping is a welcome thought. They will just check vitals every 4 hours and we can live with that. He will lose his hair in the next week or two and we aren't looking forward to that at all, but that is just part of the journey. I told him we could get pizza to celebrate being done with chemo and he got a couple pieces down. Thanks for all your support and please continue with the prayers and GOD bless!

Good morning. Luck with nurses ran out last night and she had a rough time which stole a lot of our sleep. Oh well, she tried. I had just fallen asleep when Cody called and said he was going to be sick and he wasn't kidding. So much for the pizza and he was really sick for a while, but it passed. He is sleeping soundly now and he deserves it. No doctor yet today and we don't have his blood counts either. They are working on finding the right donor and need to find one pretty soon and I'm sure the perfect one will come up in plenty of time. Thanks everyone and we will let you know something when we do. GOD bless!

THE KELLEY'S of Hutchinson

There is another dear family that Robin and I know personally, Bill and Dana Kelley. Robin worked for Bill when he was in high school in Hutchinson, Kansas. They have remained close through out the years. Dana's daughter, Lindsey, is suffering from an autoimmune disease called Interstitial Cystitis. It is a chronic, debilitating disease and at present there is no cure. Surgery was done on her bladder to check for inflammatory cells and that went well. Prayers for Lindsey, Dana and Bill as they deal with the financial, mental and emotional strain would very much be appreciated

THE MEISTER FAMILY

Jeremy Meister, the young man with the Lyme's disease is still struggling with his disease and is still hoping to find a doctor that will diagnose him properly so he can get into the Mayo Clinic. The tumor that was removed from his intestines several months ago is now back. Please continue to pray for Jeremy, his wife, and their six children.

Good Monday morning everyone.

I received an email from a good friend, Diane Sawczyn, last night asking me if My Daily Offering could be used to help some friends of hers that are in need. Their names are Mike and Meloney Biggerstaff and their son's name is Cody. They live in Fort Collins, Colorado. Cody, who is 16, is battling leukemia and has already had a bone marrow transplant from his younger sister as well as months of chemotherapy and radiation. Cody and his family are still recovering from the last round of treatment and bills and now the cancer is back with a vengeance. Cody is currently undergoing treatment in Denver and Meloney needs to be with Cody. Mike and Meloney have two daughters who are young and are still at home. Mike is staying with them so they can continue with their school and he can continue to work. Mike is a railroad engineer and is away from home quite a bit for his job. They stayed at the Ronald McDonald house during the first round of treatments but they have used their allotted time up there. The help would be to assist Meloney in paying for a place to stay while Cody is undergoing treatment.

Diane Sawczyn is a good friend of mine and is currently living in Australia. Her husband is a traveling nurse. I went to high school with Diane and she has a heart of gold. She has sent me several pieces of the jewelry that she makes to put on "My Daily Offering" so I will be posting those all this week and some of next. Diane has the jewelry with her and will be sending it from Australia to those that want it, so expect a few extra days for shipping.

Above is my painting, "The Red Dress", which is done in the style of Itzchak Tarkay. It measures 11"x14" and is done in gouache on watercolor paper. It is not matted or framed. Beside my painting is Diane's first offering. She calls it "Golden Dragonflies". Here is her description of the pendant. "Golden dragonflies dance on clear amber colored glass with black, patterned, and orange accents. Floating pendant needs no bail so it can be worn with gold or silver. Pendant size: approximately 1.25: x 2.5".

You know things are free to those who ask here on My Daily Offering, and that will continue to be the case. I would just ask you to prayerfully consider supporting the Biggerstaff family during this time of need. I know there are thousands of people out there that might need help. I've been asked lately if I'm done offering my paintings on "My Daily Offering". Since not having posted for over a month I can understand why the question would be asked. The answer is no, I am not finished. I've only been sidetracked by family birthdays, anniversaries, a trip to Colorado and life in general. It's been on my list of "things to do" but obviously my list of things to do was longer than I had time for.

Today's offering is of one of my favorite fruits, the cantaloupe. If it is ripe and sweet you can't beat the flavor. Anyway...this has always been one of my favorite paintings even though realism is not among my strong suits. I look forward to when the cantaloupes are worth eating again.

It's been a while since I've posted a daily offering. You know how life interferes with what we may want to do.

This particular painting was done several years ago from a note card I had picked up somewhere. Obviously, that means it was not my painting but copied from another person's work. I don't want to be considered a copyist or plagiarizer, but alas, I am and will be with several other paintings. My only saving grace with this blog is that I'm not charging for the painting. Hopefully, in the future, I'll only be doing my own paintings...as the Lord leads. ANYHOO...This painting is yours should you want it. Free. No kidding.

If any donations are sent to me, starting from now and continuing through the next few months, (I'm not sure how long) the money will be given to a women's counseling service, Women's Choice Resource Center, located in Fort Worth, which provides assistance to women who are struggling with being pregnant or in a crisis situation. Coastal Community

"Coastal Community" was done several years ago (1999) when I first started painting. My first art instructor was Barbara McFarland. She held a Monday night painting class at Lyn Arts that I attended for nearly three years. We were encouraged to paint from what we liked and this particular painting was done from a photograph in a magazine of another artist's painting. I did not, at the time, keep accurate records of the artist's name, so I always have to ask forgiveness of the artist I copied as I don't want to infringe on their copyrights. Since this painting is free, it might help them to be accepting of it, I don't know. Anyway...here is My Daily Offering for today. It was painted on watercolor paper with gouache and measures 9" x 12".

She is in her 70's (sshhh) but you would never know it. None of us can keep up with her. She's a vibrant, genuine and interesting lady. Her artistic daily journals are wonderful. Happy New Year, a little late. I haven't posted to My Daily Offering since the middle of December. Our Christmas and New Year's were busy, not hectic, but enjoyable. We saw our niece and her husband before Christmas. They were down from South Dakota. Even saying the word South Dakota makes me shiver. :) My oldest son, Andy, his wife Cassandra and their son, Eli were not with us this year for Christmas. The rest of the family were here. It was a small Christmas, presents-wise, but more meaningful to us than it has been in years past. It's not the quantity of the gifts, nor yet, even the quality, but the intent with which they are given that makes the giving of them meaningful. We did our usual Christmas morning breakfast at IHOP, which is always good. New Years came and went and it was 12:15 on the 1st before we even realized the new year had rolled around. After all, it IS just another day. :)

I will be posting my paintings here in 2009 fairly regularly. I might not get one posted every day but will make a valiant effort to be consistent. I also want to take this opportunity to thank those of you who wanted my paintings and have asked for them. It means a great deal to me. More than any of you will know. Again...thank you.

Above is my offering for today. It is watercolor on paper and was painted in Margie Whittington's class several years ago. The Pears were real, not copied from any painting or photograph. This is not the easiest way for me to paint. I should paint that way more often but photographs are easier to transport when going somewhere else to paint. The daily offering today is a small painting, 5 1/2" x 7". It is gouache on watercolor paper. For those not familiar with gouache, it is a watercolor medium but with a bit of chalky substance in it to make it opaque rather than transparent. This painting is done in the style of another painter but it was painted quite a few years ago and I can't even begin to remember the name of the artist. If you see this painting and you know who did it, please let me know so I can give them credit.

Terms are always the same. I'm trying to figure out where I can post the "terms" so I don't have to retype them each and every day. Wonder if it would work to put them in theplace of my profile to the right? I'll have to try that. Anyway...the painting is free to you if you want it. No obligation to pay, it's yours. The offering for today is not one of my paintings. The artist is Elizabeth Mitchell Taylor. (Betty) She's a member of my art group, Canvas by Canvas. She wanted to be a part of "My Daily Offering" and I'm glad for her to be here. "Red Radishes" is an acrylic on canvas and measures 8"x 8". I remember her painting this on one of our CBC lake house retreats.

Today's offering was a class project done in Maureen Brouilette's class several years ago. It is watercolor on paper and measures 11" x 15". I'm sure you all tire of me saying this but....the cost to you for this painting, is nothing. It's free. No obligations, no pressure. Sunday Afternoon

Good afternoon all,

During the first week of "My Daily Offering" I stated that my intent was to eventually post "My Daily Offering" to this blog instead of sending them out by email. The target date was the first part of 2009. That date has been moved up and I will be posting, exclusively, on this blog starting in the next couple of weeks, but definitely by December 14. Emails will continue to go out to all with simply the blog address included. After the 14th of December I will not send reminder emails out.

Thank you to all who have been supportive and encouraging. I appreciate each and every one of you. It's been fun to be able to mail paintings to those who wanted them. There has been one person who was angry at receiving my emails and I do not in any way wish to offend, irritate or intrude. That is why "My Daily Offering" will be exclusively on this blog. There is a link at the top of this blog where you can input your email address. When you sign up for updates they will come via Feedblitz. You can also email me with your request to either be included or not.

My offerings have been lean this week due to Thanksgiving and Ben's surgery but by the first part of this week I should be back on schedule. For those of you that are interested, Ben is healing very well and should be back in school on Tuesday. He'll be on crutches for a while.

Vespa the Angel

I have recently been posting my little paintings done a la Nancy Standlee. Nancy encouraged us to paint at least one angel in our exercises and this is mine. I have named her Vespa. Here's the reason why.

Monday, early evening, Robin took our oldest son, Andy, for a short ride around the block on our new Vespa 250cc scooter. To make a long story short, a young man pulled in front of him, headed for a drive way, and for some inexplicable reason, came to a complete stop on Robin's side of the street nearly cutting off Robin's side. Robin slowed down to let him pass across the lane but wasn't prepared for him to stop. He tried desperately to avoid a collision, but couldn't save it. As the scooter went down, Andy was able to gain his footing with his left leg and hop off the scooter before Robin collided with the SUV and he ended up on the pavement with scooter on top of him. His collar bone was broken, his shoulder, elbow, calf and ankle are pretty skinned up and his rib cage on his left side is still very sore. Sleeping at night is hard and finding a comfortable position takes effort. We are all VERY thankful that the injuries were as minimal as they were considering that it could have been so much worse.

If you have a mind to and feel led, please remember Robin in your prayers. It will be a six week healing process. He is already making progress but he's still pretty banged up. Lest anyone think this has deterred either of us from our love of scooting, you would be wrong. It has postponed our enjoyment of it but not squelched it. We'll both be back to scooting around town as soon as Robin is able and we have our scooter back. I just refuse to live in fear. We'll just have to be extra special careful when we are out and about. Oh yes...we will be wearing our helmets.

Thanks in advance for remembering Robin. Life can change in an instant, so please tell those you love...that you love them. It's all about the relationships, dear friends.

The Bee Keeper

"Bee Keeper" is the second offering in a series of smaller paintings (5x7) that were done under the tutelage of my friend and fellow Canvas by Canvas member, Nancy Standlee. For many months I have been contemplating my style of painting and have been wanting to move more towards the expressive rather than realistic. I'm not extremely good at realistic anyway. You simply have to paint to get better and I have not been doing that. Right now, Claire Harrigan is someone that I am very interested in studying. Nancy had Claire's recent book with her and I was immediately drawn to her style of design and use of color. It fascinated me and I've been wanting to try and learn to incorporate some of her style into my own. She is wonderful and I would love to meet her. But alas...she's Scottish and lives aboard.

Wedded Bliss on Paper

It's been a while since I've posted here or painted anything personal. Well, anything personal that I liked. Several weeks ago one of the Canvas by Canvas members, Nancy Standlee, gave a demonstration of what she has been learning at her myriad of workshops that she's been attending of late. Check out Nancy's blog . Anyway..I did six small 5x7 paintings that day and surprising I liked them. I am including one here. I've entitled it "Bliss". Or maybe I should entitle it "Hopeful Bliss". Either way, their future is yet to be.

Saturday in my studio

For the two of you that follow my blog, thank you for persevering.I know I promised a personal painting...but as yet there is nothing of interest to post...at least when it comes to art. My art group has been successful with the sale of three paintings from our show at the Petroleum Club in Fort Worth. For that I am thankful.

But today, and several days this week, I have escaped to my studio and am getting caught up on cleaning, reorganizing and discarding of the contents of said studio. There have been some sewing projects, such as bumper pads, sheet and dust ruffle for my grandson, Eli. Very cute fabric with a nursery rhyme theme. Green and white gingham checked piping. A few items here and there that have been cut out for months and I have just never gotten around to doing. I'm wondering what possessed me to purchase all the "stuff" I have in there. But once purchased...I have the hardest time getting rid of the "stuff".

Motivation for painting has been slim to none...nil. What to do about lack of motivation? Wait for it to come back...I suppose. Some days it's hard to muster up the courage to tackle another project but muster I must.

Another Busy Sunday

Believe it or not I do have something I want to paint...personally. It's been a very long time, seemingly, since I've had an inspiration. The art group (business) Canvas by Canvas takes up most of my artist energy. Lately, it's been too hot to go to the studio and the alterations that we have been doing to the inside of the house taken up a great deal of my so called spare time. I still have curtains, valences, rearranging and cleaning to do. Once you start to clean one area you have to make another mess to get that one particular area orderly. It's a never ending story. So all of my excuses and all my procrastinations have not yielded any new paintings...and it seems very few communications on this blog. Thanks to those that stick with me, to you Nora for checking, and to those that care enough to come back. I will have a new painting this week, one that I've had in my mind to do...we'll see if it's worth looking at when done. If you like chairs you'll might like it. Back to it.......

A Typical Tuesday

It's been a while since I've posted here. I don't know who's keeping up with me, if anyone. Things have just been busy. I've kept up with laundry and cooking but not too much housework going on. I'll be working in Grapevine with a friend for the next two days helping her get her townhome in better shape for the real estate market. It's been listed for a while but thehousing market is very slow so she's sprucing up the place, repairing what needs to be repaired, cleaning and freshning up a bit. I'll stay the night on Wednesday as there is no reason to drive home and then back. Time wasted that could be used to work. Friday my younger daughter moves into a townhome with her friend and I'm sewing curtains and wall covering for her bedroom along with anything else that might need to be done on Friday. The weekend looks free but who knows with children needing haircuts, school supplies, clothes, food, and general maintenance. Robin will be busy making his mirrors, that have become very popular..go to Daydream Dezigns to see what he's up to. I haven't been painting, except to finish my square for Canvas by Canvas' latest painting, The Adobe House...or whatever we end up calling it. My studio is in such bad shape I'm ashamed to call it a studio anymore. It's more a storage unit. If it's true we make time for what we truly love to do...I don't think I like to paint anymore. :) I have got to get myself organized for in the morning. Life just happens doesn't it?

Greetings from cool (sometimes) Colorado. My visit has been busy but enjoyable. I have seen old friends from high school at a luncheon, spent the day hiking in the Garden of the Gods with a dear friend and spent an evening with my younger sister, her family and my older sister, her family and my mother. I hadn't seen my younger sister in five years and she had not changed. The photo above is my sister's view of Pikes Peak from her front porch. Beautiful huh? Back home on Thursday...and back to painting.

GARDEN VALLEY COPPER POT

This painting was done at a lake house situated on the golf course at Garden Valley. My art group, Canvas by Canvas has been going there for some years to paint together. Earlier in this blog I posted a small watercolor of the view across the lake from this lake house. Recently, we've found another lake house to rent on Cedar Creek Lake, but that's another story. This painting is done in oil on 300 lb watercolor paper. The pot, for those interested, was a gift from my younger sister years ago and the grapes were sadly, not real. But you would never know it. I do love oils...but somehow am too impatient to stick with them. Maybe some day...maybe not. But I do love them.

This is one of my all time favorite paintings. It is framed and hanging, under glass, in my living room, hence the small white reflections in the upper part of the trees. I figured everyone could forgive those glares knowing it was the best I could do under the circumstances. I put it on here because a friend was over to my house today to pick up some frames my husband had made for her and she suggested I put it on my blog. So...Betty...just for you, here it is. It reminds me so much of my home state of Colorado. I am drawn to any painting or photo of Aspens. That is why it is so special to me. It is not for sale...unless someone were to offer me a million dollars. Any takers? LOL

Pretty in Pink

This not a recent painting, but has always been one of my favorites. I distinctly remember Maryann telling me that I needed a wee touch of every so light pink on the stem of the tulip to tie it to the flower. That was exactly what I did need and it made the difference. ~ Today I was late to the Upstairs Gallery for our Canvas by Canvas painting session. Nancy and Barbara were the only ones there in the morning and Margie came in the afternoon. I picked up CY and we all four headed for Luby's to eat lunch. Everyone got what they wanted and we talked about our new and soon to be revealed R3 series which we have tentatively entitled "Mini Series". These mini's will be 6"x 6" canvases and will be done in different themes. Check out our Canvas by Canvas blog on a daily basis for the new arrivals. There has already been a hint of our first theme in a previous post! Check it out on our blog. Tell us what you think!! Sunday...a lazy day

Sundays tend to be lazy for me. I'm done with dishes and have framed the posters for the show tomorrow and made the box that will hold the entries for the free door prizes at De Soto City Hall. We hang that show tomorrow. I would love to paint but now I have bags to sew for my friend and that will take me a few days to accomplish. Too many of them! Yesterday I made sandbags and took them to Grapevine and arranged them by the back door of my friends town home to stop the water from coming in. There has been so much rain lately that the incoming water has ruined her carpet in the downstairs area. It's really a drainage problem. Anyway....that was my project for yesterday. Gotta get and accomplish something other than being on this silly computer....but I love this silly computer.

Helped Margie shoot photos of her paintings for her website, exchanged clothing at Ross, visited MAS and picked up a check along with an easel for the show we are hanging on Monday for the De Soto City Hall. Ate in Dallas tonight at the Angry Dog Restaurant. This will have to be put on the list of places for CBC to eat at on one of their famous field trips. Watched a strange movie tonight with Justin Timberlake, Christina Ricci and Samuel L. Jackson. Something to do with Black Snake something or other and it was a strange story of redemption. What a little kindness will do for a person. The power of random acts of kindness. A powerful lesson on such a drizzly day and one I need to learn.

Here is a watercolor sketch done the last day of one of our visits to Garden Valley Golf Course lake house. Canvas by Canvas girls have spent many days painting, eating, drinking and playing games there. The view is across the small lake, which is located in the middle of the golf course in Canton, Texas. Our friendships were nurtured on the porch with margaritas, wine, steaks fixed by our own Maryann, chicken spaghetti, polish mistakes, and hand and foot card games. There are many memories we have made at this lake house....this is just one view from the back porch....many more views are there in my heart.

Well....it's been a few days and no paintings but I have underwear, shirts and transparencies to show for my time and labor. My youngest son was wearing his older brother boxers so since the laundry can't seem to do itself maybe more underwear would do the trick. Apparently, sharing boxers is a huge NO-NO! I have had a couple of really cool ideas. Cantaloupe in a bowl with a cat painted on it..."Cats and Melons" or something like that. Took a picture last night. Seems that with studying some of my favorite artists the ideas and paintings that sell are those that depict everyday life. I might go set myself down at a coffee shop in downtown Ft. worth and just snap some shots. Hopefully I'll produce a painting in the near future. To those that read this anyway....thanks for stopping in. More tomorrow in between loads of laundry and cooking. :) Hasta manana.

Today will one of grocery shopping, mending and hopefullly at least a short trip to my studio. This blogging is addictive. Not to mention email and web surfing. How do any of us get anything done???

Today was a day of addressing postcards and visiting with my art friends. Quiet visiting. We were forced out of ourusual habitat on Mondays, to the local downtown library because of insect infestation. Nasty pests. We addressed, labeled and stamped 500 postcards for the DeSoto City Hall show and sale. I have just recently quit my part time job that I had for a year and thought I would have more time to devote to my painting. Nope. I'm busier than ever. I have wanted to do a painting a day but life always gets in the way. That will never change so what must change is my focus. I hope this isn't like a diet where you say, oh...I'll start tomorrow. I make my own life very frustrating. :) More tomorrow...stay tuned.

No painting as of today. Have tried to do some but life seems to always happen...as in other people lives that require attention. MAS and I worked the AMA volunteer table today and made some contacts and learned some interesting facts. Ran into a lady at the airport, who was just sitting there waiting for her friend as I was, and as we talked I learned that she used to "live around the corner" from MAS...no kidding here.....and she loved our work and took one of our postcards. Another lady sitting next to me, in the baggage area, overheard our very interesting conversation and chimed in. Found out she and her husband were starting a new business and she was wanting to put art on the wall of the new business and was looking for local artists. I told her about our giclees and she took three of our postcards. I got her email address to stay in touch. You just never know where you will find people interested. Tomorrow I paint shoes....I keep telling myself that. Maybe the planets might align and I shall have the opportunity to go to the studio to actually put brush to canvas. Oh wait....it's Father's Day tomorrow. Life might get in the way again!!!

5 of my 11 art friends had a field trip to Dallas today. First stop was the Sam Moon complex which included Re-Be-Kah's and the stores in that vicinity. They took pictures of shoes to paint at the shoe store and then it was off to lunch. CY was starving....:) We dined at Mother and Daughters Cafe... home style cookin' and lots of it. Yum Yum. Those of you who don't live in this area don't know what you're missing!!! On to Southwest Gallery http://www.swgallery.com/ to view the paintings of John Cook and Harold Kraus, both have different styles and both are phenominal painters.
